Warhammer Quest Bestiary – Painting Journey (2024)

The original Warhammer Quest has so many way to expand the game using the roleplay book. My own collection focused on adding in extra early level monsters, and while sculpts have improved over time, i still prefer to keep my set largely based on the original 90s plastic enemy box releases from that era, alongside earlier metal miniatures. So these are my long standing enemy groups which I am repainting and touching up to fit my current style.

Goblins & Orcs – are my favourite dungeon theme as they are quirky with many early level options to introduce. Here is my metal Goblin leader or shaman as required, plus a team of six netters and three fanatics, followed by wolf riders, three wild cave squigs and a herder.

Hobgoblins are a really fitting enemy alongside night goblins and these metal miniatures had some really neat poses.

Black Orcs – an original plastic box set and a great addition for some extra difficulty in an Orc adventure.

Skaven – thematic dungeon choice which i always intended to expand further, but never got around to it, settling on some Gutter Runners and Rat Ogres.

Undead – another well used theme for dungeons, another original plastic core game Skeletons box, plus metal Ghost, Mummies and a small Zombie group.

Beastmen – another great theme, for these i had added the standard enemy box from that era plus a metal Beastlord or Chieftain and a Shaman.

Dark Elves – a more selective theme, but i have the plastic core warriors box and a nice regimental group representing warriors or naggaroth black guards as required.

Chaos – my chaos dungeon focused around some metal models i liked, a Sorceror, his familiar and a Chaos Hound, plus a monster Spawn and Nurglings.

A decent selection of additions to add some extra theme, but of course i could have gone much futher using the roleplay book, and i sadly never bought the early plastic chaos warriors box, probably the only relevant one i missed out on …
