Cursed City Expanded – Painting Journey (2021-26)

Warhammer Quest Cursed City has official and unofficial expansions, and offers itself up to expanding content from the official model range via White Dwarf articles. There are many miniatures from which to extract new material, so here is my ongoing expansion journey and thoughts since i completed the core set painting.

Morrvahl Olbrecht – a battle mage character card added via the Cursed City book.

Nemesis Expansion – this expansion comes with rules for a number of new units. The Vargheists are amazing models and painting these came out so well.

The Wight King and Grave Guardians are covered in my set by The Sons of Velmorn warband from the Gnarlwood Underworlds box, an excellent group of models that i wanted to utilise as they are better sculpts than the official grave guardian box models.

The Sepulchral Guards from Warhammer Underworlds added as extra Grave Guardians and there are custom rules available for Deathrattle Skeletons encounters > Variants

The Necromancer is a perfect addition for the Cursed City theme.

The final group to add from Nemesis are the excellent Dire Wolves

Nightwars Expansion – this box was more focused on adding three new enemy vampire characters, with rules for giant Fell Bats

There are three vampire leaders, Kritza the Rat Prince, Vampire Lord and Lady Annika and really great models, the Lord is one of my favourites ever.

White Dwarf magazine added Flesh Eater Courts scenarios, and to play these i am using my Vargheists as winged Crypt Slayers. These are my Crypt Horrors

The Gorewarden, Marrowscroll Herald and Royal Decapitator hostile characters, plus maybe an Abhorrant Archregent eventually.

The Cryptguard ghouls, a great flesh eater squad.

Hanniver Toll, Lyssa Revenya,  Mistress Verentia and Armand Callis , are hero additions with official rules. Toll adds to my witch hunter group painted in red to match my other hunters.

Custom Variant Additions – i am mostly interested in official additions, the Nighthaunt wraiths do fit the theme too well to ignore. Peter Cooper has added rules and the excellent warband Briar Queen and Nighthaunts covers most of what you need for Chainrasps, Banshees, and a Gaoler. I added the Knight of Shrouds as a Dreadwarden as it is such a great model. You could add extra Banshees and Glaivewraith Stalkers. Fan variant rules written  > Variants

There are variant rules for Ossiarch Bonereapers and Vampire Courtiers but these are not so important thematically to add really.

Hexbane Hunters are a perfect thematic hero group to add to Cursed City game, especially Haskel, one of my favourite models and his two hounds. Custom rules here > Haskel Hexbane

I feel this is sufficient expansion material for my purposes. and it is time to move onto Darkwater …
